Cleaning up After the Family Pet
Pet owners often agree that their cat or dog is a member of the family. It is fun to have a lovable animal around to share your living space, but an animal can cause some house cleaning challenges. If you have a cat, dog, or another animal in the house, then there are a few things that you should consider to keep your home safe and clean.
Keeping the Carpet Cleaned
Even if your animal is housetrained, accidents might happen now and then. If the carpet has been soiled, then it is important that you take action as quickly as possible to clean the spot. Fast action will reduce the long-term odors that can come from these types of messes. Start by blotting up the moisture as much as possible, then use a high-quality carpet cleaning product to scrub out the remnants.
There are many “pet-friendly” products out there, but look for those with bio-enzymatic solutions that help remove odor, but also break down urine, feces, blood, vomit, grease and oil.
To keep your furry friends safe, AVOID using any products with the following chemicals:
- Phenols
- Isopropyl alcohol
- Perchloroethylene
- Formaldehyde
- Phthalates
- Bleach
Regular Household Care
Even if there aren’t any soiled spots on the carpet, it is still important that you are proactive to stay ahead of the hair, dirt, and grime that animals carry into the home. Simple daily routines can be helpful to clean up these messes.
For example, make sure that you vacuum regularly to remove these particles from the flooring and carpets. It is also a good idea to stay consistent with dusting and general household cleaning. These tasks need to be done every few days, or at least once a week.

Do you love having a pet around, but you don’t like cleaning up their messes? You don’t have to do all of the work on your own! There are some big advantages to hiring a knowledgeable housekeeper to take care of these tasks on a regular basis.
