As the end of the year is approaching, here are a few essential tips to ensure that you have the right coverage and you are maximizing available benefits:

Use Calendar-Year Benefits

It’s common for insurance plans to have benefits that expire at the end of the year. For example, you insurance provider might offer an annual physical exam with little or no out-of-pocket cost to you. If you haven’t had your physical yet this year, then make sure to schedule the appointment before 2022 comes to a close.

Check with your insurance company to find out about specific calendar-year services. Don’t forget to take a look at your dental and vision coverage as well. You may be able to fit in a new pair of glasses or one more dental cleaning.

Look at Your Deductible

It’s common for health insurance deductibles to reset at the end of each year. If you have already met your out-of-pocket deductible, then it might be a good time to fit in last-minute medical services you need. Since the deductible has already been met for the year, it means you will have full coverage with lower out-of-pocket costs for the services.

On the other hand, if you haven’t met your deductible and you are expecting a lot of healthcare services next year, then consider whether you can wait until January for the care that is needed. This strategy only applies to non-urgent medical treatments.

Prepare for Your New Year’s Goals

Most people start the New Year with resolutions to improve their health. One way to stay on track with your goals is by leveraging potential discounts available through your health insurance company. Providers want to motivate people to stay healthy, so they might offer a discount on gym or health club memberships.
