Simple Tricks to Cut Back on Household Cleaning Time

Keeping up with household cleaning is an unavoidable task, but it doesn’t mean that you need to spend all of your free time working on chores around the house. With the right systems and a few simple tricks, you can cut down on your cleaning time so that you can spend more time doing the things that you love.

Spruce Up the Microwave

It’s impossible to maintain a speck-free microwave, especially when you have kids in the house heating up spaghetti or leftover pizza. Don’t wait until there is a thick layer of food baked onto the walls and ceiling in the microwave.

When you have a few extra minutes because you are waiting for dinner to cook, put a bowl of water and vinegar in the microwave. Let it run for five minutes to steam up the inside areas of the microwave. Then, you can use a rag to wipe off the grime easily.

Minimize Shower Scrubbing

Did you know that you can actually save time by increasing the frequency that the shower is cleaned? If you procrastinate the deep cleaning, then it can be a burdensome task when it is finally time to tackle the grime and buildup in the shower. Don’t wait for once-a-month deep cleaning. Instead, be proactive to clean the shower after using it.

Place a squeegee in the shower so that you can quickly wipe down the water from the glass before you get out. Also, keep a bottle of cleaner on hand so that you can freshen the tile. Make sure to use a safe cleaner or a homemade solution of water and vinegar.

Reusing Old Clothing and Socks as Dusters

It is inevitable that the dryer will “eat” a few socks. Instead of throwing away the unmatched leftovers, use those mismatched socks as a fast way to dust the front room. Place the sock over your hand, spray it with furniture polish, then wipe around in the areas that are hard to reach, such as small crevices and cracks. Pillowcases are great to use on ceiling fans so that the dust doesn’t fall to the floor.
