Do you want to keep your home clean and protect the environment at the same time? Most household cleaning products are made with harsh chemicals that can be dangerous to our beautiful planet. But, there are some alternatives that can be used to maintain a sparkling clean home and protect the earth as well.

Citrus Infused Vinegar CleanerGreen Cleaning Tips to Protect the Environment

Vinegar is a great option to clean a variety of surfaces, because it disinfects and it can break down build-up and scum. Add vinegar to a spray bottle and use it for window cleaner, to wipe the counters, or to clean faucets and handles. If you don’t like the smell of vinegar while cleaning, try adding a few drops of citrus essential oil, or leave citrus peels soaking in vinegar for a week or two, then strain the vinegar to use as a cleaning solution.

Hands-Free Toilet Scrubbing

If you don’t like using toilet bowl cleaning products, consider baking soda and vinegar instead. Pour a cup of baking soda into the toilet bowl and leave it to sit for an hour. Then, pour 1 – 2 cups of white vinegar into the toilet bowl and let it sit for another five minutes. Flush the toilet, and you will see that it is sparkling clean! If the toilet is really dirty, then you might need multiple applications.

Natural Mildew and Mold Remover

Are you battling mold or mildew problems in your home? Try adding two teaspoons of tea tree oil with two cups of water in a spray bottle. Shake well, then thoroughly coat the problem areas with the mixture. Repeat as necessary until the mold is gone.

Non-Toxic Air Freshener

To make your home smell great without the toxins found in air fresheners, add a few scented ingredients into a medium saucepan with water. Gently simmer the saucepan, and make sure to keep enough water in the pan so that it doesn’t completely evaporate. Try any combination of these ingredients: sliced lemons, vanilla, ginger root, orange, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, or lime.
